Interesting Teachings Gleaned from Online Shabbat Studies
Messianic Rabbi David Store Jr. Online Shabbat Study- Mishpatim and Romans 12
One of the things I found most interesting in the teaching from Rabbi David Stone Jr, in his teaching today, was that the edict that people should be repaid for their injuries an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth was not meant to be taken literally. The was never in all Jewish history a court that maimed people in this way. It meant that the person who had done harm to someone else needed to pay them monetarily for the harm done to them.
Another very interesting teaching from today was about the rules surrounding people being a bondservant. I often wondered why on earth Our Creator would make someone who wanted to stay a bondservant be taken to the doorway of the house and have an awl punched through his ear into the doorway. After listening to what Rabbi David taught on this topic this morning, I am starting to think that this was not something people were actually supposed to do, but this actually might have been said as a humourous threat. As in - hey you do not seem to be listening! You are not supposed to want to stay in slavery - not even as a bondservant!
