Shabbat February 14, 2026 Messianic Readings and Activities

Messianic Torah Portion: Mishpatim (Judgments)

I asked Google what the Messianic readings are for today, February 14th 2026 then switched to Ai mode to ask it to create the html code and image for this post. Update: I just noticed that the scripture links in the html provided by Google Ai were not accurate. I just updated the links to go directly to scriptures on the Blue Letter Bible website.

For Saturday, February 14, 2026 (27 Shevat 5786), we dive into Mishpatim. What is Mishpatim? Mishpatim is the Hebrew word for "judgements". This portion transitions from the awe of Sinai to the practical, everyday application of God's laws in a just society.

Mystery Shopping for Our Creator?

Wondering Why There Are Poor People?

When I first read that Our Saviour said, "You will always have the poor with you." I was very disappointed. As a matter of fact, I believe my exact thoughts were - "Well that stinks! Surely Our Creator can get rid of poverty!" Then I was led to see, the importance of people who are living in poverty - the poor are the mystery shoppers for Our Creator and His Son!

Matthew 25: 40 holds the golden key as to why we have people in the world living in poverty. If no one is hungry - how do we have the opportunity to feed them?  If no one is thirsty - how will we have the opportunity to give them a drink? If no one is naked - how will we clothe them? Likewise, the importance of people being ill or in prison is also very important for Our Creator to see people's true colours.

1 Adar I 5784 - February 10 ,2024 - Mishpatim - Judgements - Shabbat Studies

Interesting Teachings Gleaned from Online Shabbat Studies

Messianic Rabbi David Store Jr. Online Shabbat Study- Mishpatim and Romans 12

One of the things I found most interesting in the teaching from Rabbi David Stone Jr, in his teaching today, was that the edict that people should be repaid for their injuries an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth was not meant to be taken literally. The was never in all Jewish history a court that maimed  people in this way.  It meant that the person who had done harm to someone else needed to pay them monetarily for the harm done to them.
Another very interesting teaching from today was about the rules surrounding people being a bondservant. I often wondered why on earth Our Creator would make someone who wanted to stay a bondservant be taken to the doorway of the house and have an awl punched through his ear into the doorway. After listening to what Rabbi David taught on this topic this morning, I am starting to think that this was not something people were actually supposed to do, but this actually might have been said as a humourous threat. As in - hey you do not seem to be listening! You are not supposed to want to stay in slavery - not even as a bondservant!

Warning- Do Not Lose Your Rewards!

What Causes People to Lose Their Rewards?

The other day there was a 20x Rewards points event at Shopper's Drug Mart. I was a bit upset that I could not get there that day and I missed out on those rewards. I was still able to get some rewards the next time I shopped, but I was disappointed because I could have gotten a lot more rewards. Has this ever happened to you?

This morning I was led to read 2 John 1:8.

Suddenly, I realized the purpose behind my not being able to shop when the 20x Rewards Points event was on at Shopper's Drug Mart!

If I was disappointed about losing out on a few reward points towards free groceries, how would I feel if I lost out on my Eternal Heavenly Rewards and had to live with those consequences forever?

Brian "Head" Welch - Korn Shares How Christ Changed His Life!

Korn Guitarist Head Found Christ

Scripture:
  • Matthew 11:28 Come all who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.

Ranked as one of the top 100 metal guitarists in the world, Brian Phillip Welch aka Head, initially wanted to play drums, but his father persuaded him to play guitar pointing out that he would have to drag the drum kit everywhere. How Brian fell down the rabbit hole of addiction, and suicidal thoughts then became a born-again Christian is part of the story in his first book. How he came back to playing with KoRn is part of his second book.

The card is signed Head in a very unique way -Uppercase H, three horizontal lines for the uppercase "E", the uppercase "A" is on its side with its legs across the "H" and the "D" is formed by a simple vertical stroke across the "A"to the right of the bar that forms the "A" so at first glance there only seem to be three letters-H E D

Tips for Laying Up Treasures in Heaven!

Christian Antiquities Excellent Object Lessons!

Christianity has been alive and well for centuries in Europe, so I guess it would stand to reason that archeologists might stumble upon ancient Christian artifacts quite frequently. This evening I was astonished to find bronze late Medieval age crosses being listed at auction on eBay for extremely ridiculously low prices! One top-rated seller, in particular, has numerous Christian artifacts listed including these ancient crosses. Looking at the fragile brittle shape that these once sturdy crosses are now in reminds me of the following scripture:
Scripture:
  • Matthew 6:19-24 Don' be a hoarder of stuff that's just gunna  fall apart or be stolen by a bunch of theivin' tools who drool!  Git yerself  a heavenly bank account started on accounta  when the rolls called up yonder yer gunna need ta show ya produced sum fruit. 'Sides whatever yer tinkin' on cuz dats what you'll be spendin' mos' of yer time doin!  The Bible Accordin' ta 'Missionary O'Flynn" - Missionary O'Flynn- Poppin in with a wee  bit O' Olde Timey Bible Larnin' t' Make  Ye Grin!
