Books to Help Build Resilience in Children

Children's Books for Resilience 

Learning to keep going when the rug is seemingly pulled out from underneath you is so important.
Two of the earliest books I remember from my childhood helped me keep going were:
I Can't Said the Ant, and The Little Engine that Could. Do you remember either of these?

Here are a few other titles that I think would be helpful in encouraging children to keep going despite all odds.

• The Itsy Bitsy Spider - This song made into a book shows how despite getting washed down the drain, the spider picks herself up and spins a web again. This would be especially helpful for young children who are frequently flooded out of their homes.
• Hatchet by Gary Paulson - This junior - intermediate book highlights the fictional adventure of a 13 year old boy who crash lands in Northern Ontario with little more than his wits and a hatchet.
