Children's Books for Resilience
Learning to keep going when the rug is seemingly pulled out from underneath you is so important. Two of the earliest books I remember from my childhood helped me keep going were:
I Can't Said the Ant, and The Little Engine that Could. Do you remember either of these?
Here are a few other titles that I think would be helpful in encouraging children to keep going despite all odds.
- The Itsy Bitsy Spider - This song made into a book shows how despite getting washed down the drain, the spider picks herself up and spins a web again. This would be especially helpful for young children who are frequently flooded out of their homes.
- Hatchet by Gary Paulson - This junior - intermediate book highlights the fictional adventure of a 13 year old boy who crash lands in Northern Ontario with little more than his wits and a hatchet.
- Tough Times Never Last, but Tough People Do - Robert Schuler
- Wonder Kids - Read my Review Here.
