Bible Hermeneutics - Online Bible Stack Discussion

Scripture:
  • Nehemiah 8:12 Then they went eating and rejoicing and sharing portions with the poor for they had understood the words that had been read to them, Nehemiah 8:12
Wish you had someone to chat with about the Bible? I just discovered the Biblical Hermeneutics Stack Exchange - not to be confused with the Stock Exchange. Sorry I just couldn't resist. This post has a bit about the Biblical Hermeneutics Stack Exchange and my two cents worth on the usefulness of this site.

The Biblical Hermeneutics Stack Exchange - Newbie Review

Since I just discovered the Biblical Hermeneutics Stack Exchange, this is just a quick first blink review of the site. In time, my opinions may change, and God willing I will be able to update this post with a more thorough review.

Similarities and Differences Between Reddit, Quora and the Biblical Hermeneutics Stack Exchange

Are you familiar with Redditt? The Biblical Stack Exchange is a bit like Redditt in that you vote up posts and earn badges for participating in the discussion. However, unlike Redditt, you can only post questions and answers, so I guess that would make it a bit more like Quora. I did not see any of the spammy style posts that you sometimes find in Quora though. However, I did see that some of the questions posted looked like assignments students had received and they were trying to get other people to do their homework for them. This is evident to me when the question is worded in excellent grammar and the explanatory note has a very different language pattern.

Biblical Hermeneutics Stack Exchange Newbie User Experience

It was quite easy to sign up to be a member of the Biblical Hermeneutics Stack Exchange. I was able to join using my Google ID quite smoothly. Something else I appreciated was the ability to change my avatar and user name quickly and easily.
I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted with an automated message inviting me to earn a badge by taking a quick tour of the site. I am now the proud holder of the "Informed " Badge from the Biblical Hermeneutics Stack Exchange. Encouraged by gaining this Badge I then set out to earn another Badge by either answering a question or posing a question.
Hmmm...man people really ask some tough questions on that site!
Seeing the depth and quality of the questions made me feel reluctant to post a question amongst such scholarly topics concerning the interpretation of various texts in the Hebrew and Greek Testaments.
I could quickly see that this might not be the ideal site for me to use for Bible study. I  wish they had a couple of sections. For example, if the questions and answers could be subdivided into Beginning Biblical Hermeneutics, and Advanced Biblical Hermeneutics it might encourage newbies to stick around and learn a bit more.
Unless you know a lot of Hebrew or Greek this might not be the place to get your party started so to speak.

Have you earned a Badge or two from the Biblical Hermeneutics Stack Exchange? I would like to hear about your experiences with this free Bible Study tool.
