BAS Scholarship Overview
The Biblical Archaeology Society, the publisher of Biblical Archaeology Review, offers dig scholarships of $2,000 each to people who wish to participate in a dig and demonstrate sufficient need. To apply, please fill in the application form below with the required information, including your responses to two essay questions (up to 300 words each).
In addition, applicants are required to upload a current résumé or curriculum vitae as a PDF document of no more than three (3) pages in length, and to request one (1) letter of support for their application from an academic, professional, or another appropriate reference. Recommenders should submit their letter by email to scholarships@bib-arch.org, addressed to the BAS Scholarship Committee. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their recommender submits the letter to BAS before the application deadline.
Applications and accompanying letters of recommendation must be submitted by Friday, April 1, 2022. BAS anticipates notifying applicants of award decisions by mid-May 2022. Please note that this year’s BAS Dig Scholarship program may be impacted by changing regulations and travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please check the BAS Digs website regularly for updates.
BAS Dig Scholarship Eligibility
The BAS Dig Scholarship program is open to interested enthusiasts, students (at the undergraduate or graduate level), educators, non-academics or other professionals who want to participate in an active archaeological project in the lands of the Bible (e.g., the Middle East and North Africa, the countries of the Mediterranean and Aegean). When possible, applicants should have already applied to or been accepted to join an archaeological project before applying for a dig scholarship. A full list of available dig opportunities can be found at biblicalarchaeology.org/digs. Award priority will be given to first-time dig participants and applicants from community colleges and minority-serving institutions.;
