Church Attendance Dwindling? Try Using Altar Calls!
Have you ever left a church ? Why did you leave?
Sometimes people leave a church due to distance. In this day of zoom meetings, Facebook live and other electronic platforms, you would think that this might not be a problem. Did you know that there are thousands of people who have no access to TV. radio or Internet?
In cases like these, how can you keep you church members connected? Instead of bemoaning what they don't have, look at what they DO have. Do they have a working telephone? If so, ask if they would like to be able to listen to the service over the phone!
How to Set Up a Simple Altar Call System
Here is one way a church might set up a simple altar call system.
1.At the beginning of the service ask all attendees to place their unlocked phones on the altar.
2. Use the phones to call people who cannot get out to the service just before the service starts.
3. After the service, delete the last number called.
Yes, this solution is fraught with problems - for example maintaining the privacy of the people on both ends of the altar call. So perhaps it might be worth investigating how your phone line could be set up so people could call in any time and choose to listen to the most recent service .
You say you don't have funds to reach those who cannot come to the service? Perhaps funds could be found by selling some things you have laying around. How about some of those empty unused pews?Or better yet, pray and ask Our Creator to provide the funds to pay.
Keep smiling!
