Free Monthly Christian Magazine - In Touch -Helps People Keep in Touch!

Are You Getting In Touch?

In Touch: Daily Readings for Devoted Living - Free Monthly Magazine Offers Gentle Daily Guidance

Yesterday, my monthly free devotional magazine from In Touch Ministries arrived. The front cover of the August edition has the image of a cheerful yellow and green bird perched on a lichen-covered branch- its feathers puffed up, head drawn in and turned to one side. It looks at me with one eye as if to say - "Well, are you going to open this book, or just sit there admiring me?"

Opening the pages of the In Touch magazine, is a bittersweet experience for me. Previously, I have eagerly opened the magazine, listening for the kind dulcet tones of Dr. Charles F. Stanley coming from the pages of this free magazine. I find it very difficult to believe I will never have the opportunity to hear Dr. Stanley speaking live again. I had great admiration for the preaching style of Dr. Stanley.

What I Admired About Dr. Charles F. Stanley

Dr. Stanley seemed to have a heart and compassion for hurting people.. He shared insights from his own personal walk with G-d, tips on how he connected with Our Creator, and shone the light of Christ on events in the news. What I admired the most, however, was his kind gentle manner of welcoming new, perhaps reluctant believers into the body of Christ at the end of his sermons. As I type this I can almost hear him say, something like: "You know you have two choices, and you know you don't want that other one. So, if you want to have Christ in your life, just say this prayer with me."

Dr. Charles F. Stanley's preaching to me really showed the love of G-d to people. He wasn't a flamboyant hellfire and brimstone preacher proudly stating that he wasn't there to tickle people's ears. I never perceived a condemnational tone uttered by the man in the many sermons I heard him teach. For me, he exemplified the love that Christ showed in His ministry on earth.

To me, Dr. Stanley was a very humble man- his ministry was not called "Dr. Charles Stanley such and such, but" In Touch".  The wisdom in naming his ministry "In Touch" will let this ministry of helping people choose to lead devoted lives will be able to continue on through its many facets - television, internet, radio and magazines.

August 2023 In Touch Magazine: Daily Readings for Devoted Living Overview

Let me take you on a quick walk-through of the August 2023 In Touch magazine.

The In Touch magazine  is a glossy half-size magazine printed for the most part in  a comfortable size black font on ivory paper which is gentle on my tired eyes.

Inside front cover:

Getting Started: Sing to the Lord - A 2-page actionable article with tips to help you get in touch with the Lord in a fresh way - by meditating on the words of hymns, along with a quote from Dr. Stanley in a side piece suitable for keeping as a bookmark for your Bible:
Have you noticed children love to sing?Perhaps one reason is they haven't become jaded or self-concious. In Matthew 18:3 Jesus said we must "change and become like children"to enter the kingdom of heaven. Over time though, it's possible for believers to lose that childlike humility- and even the joyful among us can be worn down by trials. Ask God to refresh you today. An unenthusiastic heart finds it hard to sing, but a humble one will do so gladly."
Pages 6-16: Daily Devotionals-

Each meditation is inspired by the sermons by Dr. Charles F. Stanley on specific scriptures. Each meditation has the date, a scripture, a meditation on the scripture and Bible in a year scripture Most meditations on the scripture end with a question to get you thinking like:
"What do you think your spiritual gifts are? How might God be calling you to use them in a fuller way?"

Pages 16-20 - An in-depth Bible Study - Finding Sanctuary  This Bible Study has headings - Background, Read, Reflect, Continuing the Story, Reflect and Going Further
