Shemot (Exodus) Israelite Edible Bricks Recipe
While studying the Torah lessons for this week in the beginning of Shemot, I was looking for a craft that might appeal to tweens and teens. The closest thing I could find online was a recipe to make edible Peanut Butter Rice Crispie Square Bricks on Chabad.org. An interesting idea, but it had a few drawbacks namely:
- You do not always have access to cooking facilities.
- Peanut butter is not allowed in many facilities.
- Only one person could really make the recipe - and it would be best completed by an adult for safety reasons.
- Cooked marshmallow is very sticky and burns skin badly if not handled carefully.
- It is not a very healthy recipe.
- The recipe takes too long for many children's ministry sessions.
It was then put in my heart to take out a cup and a spoon, and within a few minutes I had been led to make a new healthy recipe for these Quick Edible Healthy No-Cook Bricks!

Quick Edible No-Cook Healthy Bricks Recipe
I think this recipe might appeal to tweens and teens due to some of the interesting ingredients - in particular the protein shake powder.
This is a great recipe to do in a group as each participant can mix their own ingredients in their own cup at the same time as you talk about the symbolism or nutritional values of the different ingredients.
This method for making the bricks also results in a portable result that can be taken home to share with family and friends- if it gets that far as these are delicious fudge-like treats.
Ingredients
- Sunflower Seed Butter
Nuts to You Smooth Sunflower Seed Butter - Pomegranate Juice - I used some juice from a thawed package of Irrisistables Brand Frozen Pomegranate Seeds
Frozen Irrisitables Pomegranate Seeds - Pitted Dates- I used Noor Brand pitted dates. They were very soft and chewy and the lowest priced dates at our local store.
Noor Pitted Dates - Gluten-Free Corn Chex Cereal
- Vega Vanilla Protein Shake - be sure to get the correct one. The one in the black container is a sand colour- the one in the silver container is green!
To be continued...
