What Does Isaiah 31:8 Mean?
For the past week I have had the first part of Isaiah 31:8 put across my path again and again. This piece of prophetic scripture is quite puzzling. What does it mean? What significance can this scripture hold for us today? Who is the Assyrian? What is meant by a "sword not of man"?
This post has my adventure with this scripture.

My Adventure Sharing Isaiah 31:8
Why My Scriptural Adventure Might Interest You
Verified Prophet by Head of Prayer Canada
In 2012, the head of Prayer Canada came to our little village to speak. He had a very unusual experience right before our eyes and started to share words of wisdom with quite a few people there. At one point he walked up to my table, looked directly at me and loudly commanded- "You! You are a prophet!Prophesy!"
Several people let out an audible gasp as they grasped what he had said. They were shocked and I'm sure some of them thought that he had walked up to the wrong table.
I felt a bit like Cinderella at the ball - I had always loved The Messiah, but I had led a very flawed and imperfect life- looking for love in all the wrong places. However, I had always had Christ in my life and my dreams had come true more than once or twice. I wonder if David felt like this when he was anointed by Samuel. Being the youngest son in his family he would have been picked as the least likely to succeed.
I guess I am what some might term a "seer". In addition to having dreams that come true, I am sometimes led to perceive additional layers of meaning in ordinary things It's a bit like when you look at clouds and imagine shapes in them- but you are not using your imagination - it is more of a careful listening to an impartation.
Note: Many prophets will say, The LORD told me, or God told me However, in scripture we read the words of Our Creator regarding such proclamations and He admonishes us to just say that we received a word and not to say that we received it from Him.
So, this is what I was led to perceive today.
Word Received From and Through Isaiah 31:8
Here is the experience I had with Isaiah 31:8 today. I am the last to believe in what I perceive - we must take every thought captive. So - whether this was just a wild goose chase to keep me in place and out of the weather or truly a prophecy about things to come- time will tell.
The Scriptural Adventure Begins
This morning, I was led to open my YouVersion Bible App and create the following Scripture Meme using this specific scripture, background image and font: The placement of the words and even the font choice and colour were significant.
Spirit Led Isaiah 31:8 Meme Creation. |
I felt led to position the scripture so the first two phrases in the scripture would stand out against the dark clouds.
"And The Assyrian will fall by a sword not of man, And a sword not of man will devour him."
Note: This scriptural phrase feels as though it is referencing a group of people rather than a specific person at this time.
Daring to Share the Meme
Next, I was led to post the meme on X and start writing the alt description. Did you know you can put 10000 characters in an alt description?
As I wrote the alt description multiple layers of meaning came into my heart as I was led to write the following rather strange alt description:
Background image foreground is a barren(baron -Snoopy and the Red Baron -Snoopy- a spy -a pie spy- an apple pie spy) hard pockmarked wasteland, midground - a low (`allo, ' allo, 'allo; Lo and behold) dark ridge with an ancient mountain range backing it suffused in a dark red light (and the rockets red glare - glaring sternly -stern (back of a ship - back - backed))behind this is a lake of fire(backed by demonic minions). The sky above is full of dark billowing ominous clouds. The words of Isaiah are super (superpower) imposed in Gold "Aktiv Grotesk" font (emphasis on imposed active grotesque gold - gold market - mark it) so the first two lines of the scripture stand out against the dark clouds (high above the clouds -Remax - something about Max - as in "Max well " machts gut - Smart - with a German accent) The first 2 lines are: And the Assyrian will fall by a sword not of man, And a sword not of man will devour him ( The willful Assyrian will fall - impeccably willed "eyes "dotted)
Interpreting the "Download"
So.. what on earth does that gobbledygook mean? Good question. Usually, I hesitate to do an interpretation of any word I receive- as my interpretation could interfere with someone else perceiving what they are supposed to receive from it. I learned the importance of delivering a message as received several years ago at a tiny gathering of Christians in Cameron Ontario - but that's a different story.
Searching for The Assyrian
Next, I was led to find out more about the Assyrians and to discover what appears to be a fact-based website and vlog. However, it may be a clever disguise for spreading heretical lies. Call your website an "Encyclopedia" and people might believe anything you write. Yes, free speech is a right, but it is not right to spread opinion as fact.
What is strange is that their embedded vlog actually seems to contradict their article.
Assyrians in the Bible
This scripture reminds me somewhat of the waĆior Sisera who was killed by a woman - Jael- when she thrust a tent peg through his head. Judges 5:24 The Song of Deborah.
I wonder- could he have been the Assyrian mentioned in this prophecy?
Here are some notable mentions of Assyria and Assyrians in the Bible:
- 2 Kings17:6 In the ninth year of Hoshea the King of Assyria captured Samaria and carried away Israel into exile.
- 2 Kings 17:27 The king of Assyria sent an exiled priest back to Samaria to teach the invaders about Our Creator - This is very interesting! What an amazing way to advance the number of people worshipping the one true Elohim! It makes me wonder if this might have been the Creator's big plan for allowing the area to be plundered.
- 2 Kings 18:7 King Hezekiah rebels against the King of Assyria.
- 2 Kings 18:10 In the 6th year of King Hezekiah - the 9th year of Hoshsea Samaria is captured by Assyrians again.
- 2 Kings 18:13 -19:37 Sennacherib king of Assyria captured all the fortified cities of Judah. This guy was impudent enough to mock The Creator who made short work of his army when the besieged King Hezekiah cried out for help. The Assyrian army woke up one morning to find thousands of their men mysteriously dead. This certainly seems to be people slain by a sword that is not of man. If Our Heavenly Father did this once, He certainly can do it again!
Could this possibly have been what was meant by Isaiah's prophecy? Not a single Assyrian - but the Assyrian threat?
Still no solid answers yet on whether this was the Assyrian mentioned in Isaiah's prophecy. Well, it's about time for me to call it a night. I am going to sleep on this and pray that more might be revealed to me tomorrow.
Questions
Who do you think this Assyrian is in the prophecy of Isaiah?
Why do you think I might have received this word today?
