Chanukah 2019 .- History, Food, Crafts, Fun!

Chanukah 2019 Begins Sunday Evening, December 22 How Will You Celebrate?

Chanukah, also spelled Hanukkah is a  Hebrew word and is pronounced with a guttural, “kh” sound, kha-nu-kah, not tcha-new-kah. This post contains a few links to interesting resources I've discovered.
Did you know Jesus celebrated Chanukah?

In the Bible, John mentions Jesus visiting the temple during Hanukkah.(John 10:22-23)  Referred to as the winter Feast of Dedication - this is Chanukah! The Hebrew word Chanukah means “dedication”

What is Chanukah?

Chanukah, an eight-day, wintertime “festival of lights,” has been celebrated celebrated with nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods for centuries by Jews around the world and now more Christians are celebrating the true feasts of God, and also some of the traditional holidays like Chanukah that Jesus would have celebrated during his life time.

Chanukah it celebrates the re-dedication of the Holy Temple following the Maccabees revolt against oppressors who had desecrated the temple and the altar. There is an excellent article here about the origins of Chanukah in the Jewish Encyclopedia you might want to check out.
Has your temple been desecrated?
What a wonderful time after going through the 10 days of repentance between Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur as explained here on Chabad.org, and then having the assurance of pardon though the sacrifice of Christ to re-dedicate our bodies or temples to God.

About some of the sources:
  • Chabad.org is an excellent website that I have been using for several years to research answers I have to questions about the Hebrew scriptures. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in finding out more about the scriptures Christ was quoting and the scrolls He would have read from in the temple.
  • NetBible.org is a fabulous Bible study suite called Lumina by Bible.org. While the home page opens at Matthew 1:1 of the NET2 translation This Bible study suite contains, 10 translations plus for the New Testament - the Bible in Greek. You can even examine all 10 versions of the same scripture at one time. It also contains maps, Constable's notes, and a wealth of writing and studies. There are no ads on this site to distract from your studies either. Take a tour of Lumina, and you may find it becomes one of your favourite Bible study tools too.(Be sure to scroll down the page to discover all the hidden tools!)
