Paid Volunteers? WE Controversy Thoughts~

Volunteer Definition:a person who does something... willingly and without being forced or paid.

I've done a lot of volunteer work over the years, and never in a million years did it ever occur to me that I should have been paid for it.
Free the Children, founded by Craig Keilburger and his school chums when they were in  Grade 7, has done so much good over the past years in ending child labour and enabling children to get an education. So it is not surprising at all that some people want to dig up some dirt to discredit the Keilburgers and the student organization that came out of Free the Children - ME to WE, aka WE.
Recently, WE has hit headlines in a very negative way. CBC is reporting that the charity WE is paying student volunteers less than minimum wage. Excuse me, but doesn't the term volunteer mean you don't get paid anything?

Greed Definition: a very strong wish to continuously get more of something, especially...money

I know a word that suits people like this reporter who is looking to cause problems for this very amazing organization, but it should not be used in polite company. What do you think?

Here is the CBC News story.

Sometimes there are things that just make me "Jesus in the temple" kind of angry!
Prayer:
Dear Lord! Please forgive those who are causing problems for an amazing organization  that has done so much to end child labour around the world!

What do you think? Should volunteers be paid? If you are paid, does that not mean you are an employee rather than a volunteer?
