Which Women Through History Have Inspired You Most?

March seems to be a time of celebrating women. Interestingly enough it is also the month this year when amazing miracles of the salvation of Jews came through more than a woman or two. This post shares some vignettes of famous women through history.

Which Women In History Inspire You?

4 Inspiring Biblical Women - March 2021

March 2021, we find the following women from the Bible are being highlighted:
  1. Esther -
    Esther - Image from Wikipedia

This March, Purim was celebrated. Esther a Jewess was placed in the royal palace as a queen. When a toady named Hamen was so filled with a spirit of pride and control that he requested the king put all the Jews to death by appealing to the king's greed, Esther was in a difficult precarious, but advantageous position to try to influence her husband to do something to change the foolish decree he'd issued. She asked all the Hebrews to join with her in praying and fasting without eating and drinking for three days. Then at the end of the three days, Esther executed her plan to try to influence her husband. May we all be as wise as Esther to fast and pray for help in overcoming evil schemes.
  2. Moses'Mother - Jochebed's determination from day one to protect her endangered son gives us a good example of how much can be done with determination. She most likely had very little money to make a way of escape for her son, but she used what she could get for free and her God-given skills in basketry. May we all have our eyes opened to ways we can be resourceful with what we have.
  3. Pharoah's Daughter - Lead by her ears and compassion to draw the baby Moses from the water. May we all learn to show compassion for others from other cultures and resist when harsh governmental laws cause others to descend like vultures.
  4. Miriam -Miriam, Moses' sister, brought her mother to the Pharoah's daughter to nurse her baby brother. May we all have the bravery to step forward even in the presence of powerful people to speak up and do what is right.

My Favourite Biblical Women

For me, my favourite Biblical women are:
  1. Ruth -
Ruth in Boaz's Field from Wikipedia

Ruth is the daughter-in-law of Naomi. She went with Naomi and gleaned the fields to provide food for themselves. She showed kindness to her mother-in-law even though she was bereaved herself. Her kind manner drew the attention of Boaz who in turn showed kindness to her. May we all keep our eyes open to ways to still show kindness, even when we ourselves are grieving and struggling to survive.
  2. Deborah -
    Deborah and Barak from Wikipedia

Deborah the judge and prophetess went into battle alongside Barak, so he would go to battle and also because she saw that the victory would be given into the hands of a woman. Victory over the leader was given into the hands of a woman -but not Deborah! The story of Deborah is inspirational to me in many different ways.
  3. Lydia of Phillipi- A seller of a luxury product - purple cloth had her heart opened by God to hear the message of salvation and welcome the apostles into her home.  /May we all have our hearts opened by God and welcome people in the name of Christ.
