The title Hurried Worried Buried makes me think about how true this is. How many lives have been lost by people hurrying ahead of God's perfect timing or worrying about things that never may happen?

Biblical Examples of Hurrying and Worrying

Three Biblical Examples of Hurrying Ahead of God

Even in the Bible, we find examples of people trying to hurry ahead of God's perfect timing, and making a big muck of things in the process.  Here are a few times when people hurried ahead of God's timing in the Bible.
  1. Abram Sarai and Hagar. This is the story that sprang to my mind. Man, the things women do for love!  Abram and Sarai knew that Abram had been promised a huge family by God. They waited, and waited and waited. However, no children were forthcoming from their union. So Sarai, out of love for her husband decided to take things into her own hands and try to "help along" God's plan. We know what a mess that created! Thankfully, God can take the messes and mistakes we make and change things for good. You can find the story of Abram, Sarai and Hagar in
  2. Moses loses his opportunity to go into the promised land by taking things into his own hands. This suggestion comes from Beth Nystrom on Twitter in answer to my question  Perhaps you recall all Moses did to obey God's command and lead the Hebrews from Egypt to the promised land? Then he lost it all when he was provoked to anger and hit the rock wall and not giving God the glory for the miracle of the water that gushed out at all.
  3. The downfall of Saul was when he gave a sacrifice that he was not supposed to do at all. This suggestion also came from Twitter in response to my question.  Here Saul acted out of fear that the troops he had gathered would disappear before Samuel could arrive to do the sacrifice. Then when Samuel arrived and saw what had happened with his eyes Samuel prophesied that that King Saul would lose his post. I wonder, what might the outcome have been if Saul had waited and all his soldiers had dissipated. However, I believe God had already foreseen what might happen at that scene. Do not forget, making Saul king was one of God's regrets. You can find the story of the fall of Saul in 1 Samuel 13.
What other examples of hurrying ahead of God's timing spring into your mind?
About Hurried Worried Buried by Greg Laurie
This excerpt is from the free eBook promotion page:
These days it seems as though everyone is either stressed out, under pressure, anxious, or worried. Most of us are so busy doing life that we fail to spend time alone with God or look to Him for the cure for our anxieties that can only come from Him. In Hurried, Worried, Buried, Greg Laurie reminds us that, as Christians, God wants us to seek Him first and relinquish control of our own lives. He wants us to pray and trust in Him. And to stop wrestling with life and start resting in Him.
