What Causes People to Lose Their Rewards?
The other day there was a 20x Rewards points event at Shopper's Drug Mart. I was a bit upset that I could not get there that day and I missed out on those rewards. I was still able to get some rewards the next time I shopped, but I was disappointed because I could have gotten a lot more rewards. Has this ever happened to you?
This morning I was led to read 2 John 1:8.
Suddenly, I realized the purpose behind my not being able to shop when the 20x Rewards Points event was on at Shopper's Drug Mart!
If I was disappointed about losing out on a few reward points towards free groceries, how would I feel if I lost out on my Eternal Heavenly Rewards and had to live with those consequences forever?

How Do We Make Sure We Do Not Lose Our Eternal Heavenly Rewards?
Our Saviour taught in
Matthew 6:20:
Since it is best to lay up our treasures in heaven, rather than desiring earthly belongings, how can we safeguard those rewards?
My thoughts on this topic may be wrong, but on the other hand, they might be right. I would love to hear what you think. Please pop a note in the comments below.
Scripture:
- βλέπετε ἑαυτούς ἵνα μὴ ἀπολέσωμεν ἃ εἰργασάμεθα ἀλλὰ μισθὸν πλήρη ἀπολάβωμεν 2 John 1:8

Examining 2 John 1:8
First Thoughts on 2 John 1:8
When I first glanced at 2 John 1:8, I thought, "Oh no! Does that mean that people could lose their Salvation?"
After reading an answer to "What does 2 John 1:8 mean?" on the Got Questions blog I initially had my mind eased. This scripture does not say anything about Salvation, just rewards. Nothing to worry about, right?
Many people believe you cannot lose your Salvation, but some scriptures seem to indicate that you can lose your Salvation as well as your rewards!
For example, in Matthew 7:21 Our Saviour says-
However, that's a discussion for another day.
What Eternal Rewards Await Us in Heaven?
I have no idea what eternal rewards await us in heaven. In John 3:12 Our Saviour told us it is practically impossible to tell us about the Kingdom of Heaven because people didn't even believe the things He told them about Earth.
When I am accumulating Reward points through my purchases at Shopper's Drug Mart I don't know how I will eventually use my reward points. I'm just happy to be able to accumulate my reward points with the knowledge that they will be a big help to me.
I really can't even imagine what those Eternal Heavenly Rewards might be.
One night I did have a wonderful dream where it seemed I was in Heaven laying in the verdant grass enjoying a peaceful loving chat face to face with My Creator. How truly wonderful that was. I did not want to return to my earthly life. If that could be one of my rewards, I certainly would not want to miss out on that!
So how do we keep from losing our Eternal Heavenly Rewards?
Which Scriptures Tell Us About Losing Eternal Heavenly Rewards?
There are several indications in scripture of different ways people might miss out on Heavenly Eternal Rewards for example:
In Matthew 6:1,, Our Saviour cautions us:
And then he emphasized this same point again in MTthew 6:20.
I have to admit, this is a very difficult thing for me to do sometimes. It is something I am seriously working on getting better at.
Another way we can lose out on Eternal Heavenly Rewards is pointed to in Colossians 2:18
The importance of only worshipping Our Heavenly Father is also emphasized in the Revelation John received. When John was astounded by everything he saw, he went to bow down to the angel who was explaining everything to him.
Do you remember the angel's response in Revelation 22:9?
Yes, it is quite clear - we are only to worship Our Heavenly Father. No one else.
Do you know of other things we must be on guard against so we do not miss out on our Heavenly Eternal Rewards?
