Why Names Are So Important!

Delving Into Biblical Names: Thoughts on Genesis 17

In the Bible we read "the spirit of life and death lie in the tongue." While many people realise negative words can crush a person's spirit, few people realise the importance of names.

Names are very important to Our Creator. Several times in the Bible we even find Our Creator stepping in and giving a person a name - sometimes before they were born like Isaac or later in life like Abram and Sarai.

Similarly, his wife's name initially was Sarai meaning , "My Princess". Later Creator changed her name to Sarah meaning "Princess or Lady".

Isaac their late-in-life baby was given his name by Creator too. Isaac is related to the Hebrew verb "to laugh". He was given this name by Creator because Abraham laughed when he was told that he would father a son with his ancient wife- Sarah
