Lessons From the Welsh Christianity Revival of 1904

What Can Past Revivals Teach Us?

Between 1904 and 1905 a great desire to grow closer to God ran through Wales. This move of the spirit was definitely extraordinary and revolutionary!  Whole towns were shut down for weeks as people went to services to cry out to God and seek His face. This was not a revolution of the weak! Pubs, bars and pool halls emptied! Football (soccer) matches were even called off due to this reign as the players did not show up for games!
I must admit, I am quite ignorant of church history, and I was thrilled to find this piece of a peaceful movement of the Great Mystery put across my path yesterday.

The Story of the 1904-1905 Welsh Revival was posted on YouTube by APSGospel with the following note
This is an in-depth look at the 1904–1905 Welsh Revival which was the largest Christian revival in Wales during the 20th century. While by no means the best known of revivals, it was one of the most dramatic in terms of its effect on the population and triggered revivals in several other countries. "The movement kept the churches of Wales filled for many years to come, seats being placed in the aisles in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Swansea for twenty years or so, for example. Meanwhile, the Awakening swept the rest of Britain, Scandinavia, parts of Europe, North America, the mission fields of India and the Orient, Africa and Latin America."
This note is followed by a quote from the Hebrew scriptures and the words of a hymn. The scripture displayed in the notes with this YouTube is quite appropriate as it really reflects the feeling that ran through the people during this revolution which shut down whole towns for weeks at a time. I believe we are about to see such a revival once again. What scripture and hymn are shared there?
2 Chronicles 7:14-15 KJV
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attend unto the prayer that is made in this place.
The hymn?
This hymn is not familiar to me a all, perhaps it is one you know though. The hymn starts:

1 Once more,
   O Lord, we pray,
   Put Thy strong armor on;
   Strike down the shield of Satan’s pow’r;
   Let victory be won.

And the refrain is

Once more, O Lord, once more
Thy blessing we implore;
In Thy great name let vict’ry sweep
Thro’ Zion’s gates once more.

The hymn has two more verses as well that you can view here on the APSGospel YouTube Channel with this video of the Welsh Revival.
