Tips for Laying Up Treasures in Heaven!

Christian Antiquities Excellent Object Lessons!

Christianity has been alive and well for centuries in Europe, so I guess it would stand to reason that archeologists might stumble upon ancient Christian artifacts quite frequently. This evening I was astonished to find bronze late Medieval age crosses being listed at auction on eBay for extremely ridiculously low prices! One top-rated seller, in particular, has numerous Christian artifacts listed including these ancient crosses. Looking at the fragile brittle shape that these once sturdy crosses are now in reminds me of the following scripture:
Scripture:
  • Matthew 6:19-24 Don' be a hoarder of stuff that's just gunna  fall apart or be stolen by a bunch of theivin' tools who drool!  Git yerself  a heavenly bank account started on accounta  when the rolls called up yonder yer gunna need ta show ya produced sum fruit. 'Sides whatever yer tinkin' on cuz dats what you'll be spendin' mos' of yer time doin!  The Bible Accordin' ta 'Missionary O'Flynn" - Missionary O'Flynn- Poppin in with a wee  bit O' Olde Timey Bible Larnin' t' Make  Ye Grin!

How Can We Lay Up Treasures in Heaven?

While I have never really been one for jewelry, I have always loved looking at antiquities and imagining the people who used them and places they have been. These bronze crosses that once were so sturdy, would make an excellent object lesson to display to emphasize the words of Christ in Matthew 6:19-24.
But how can we lay up treasures for ourselves in heaven?
I believe Christ tells us quite plainly what it is we must do in several places in the scriptures. For example, in Matthew 19 when the rich young man asks Christ what he must do to have eternal life, Christ replies in verse 21 that he must sell his possessions and give to the poor and then he would have "treasures in heaven".
(I find it very interesting that these discourses of Christ about treasures in heaven appear in the book written by Matthew. Why? Matthew had been a tax collector when he was called by Christ to follow Him! It would have been difficult to find people more hated in the ancient world by their fellow Jews than the tax collectors. Tax collectors were Jews who collected taxes on behalf of their oppressors and added an amount on top for their own wages.)

It says in Matthew 19 that that rich young man went away very sad because he had many possessions. Would you be walking away very sad too?
