Why Yom Kippur Is Not a Jewish Holiday

Yom Kippur 2023 will be observed by people who love Our Father with all their heart, soul, mind and strength from sundown Sunday, September 24th to sundown Monday, September 25th. If like me, you grew up thinking that Yom Kippur was a Jewish Holiday- I urge you to read your Bible very carefully!

I am grateful for having my eyes opened to the truth about this very holy appointed time that Our Heavenly Father has asked us to set aside each year. I am just learning about this very holy day. Great Yom Kippur Resources

One excellent resource explaining the importance of Yom Kippur for believers in the Messiah who died for our sins is this article about Yom Kippur on Messianic Light

Understanding Yom Kippur is an interesting YouTube with Rabbi Schneider on the Discovering the Jewish Jesus channel. In this video Messianic Rabbi Kurt Schneider walks us through how Yom Kippur would have been originally observed.

This article on the Jews for Jesus website about how to observe a Messianic Yom Kippur is also very enlightening. It is here that I learned that the Book of Jonah is the recommended reading for Yom Kippur.

Another interesting resource is this YouTube Rosh Hashanah livecast from Troy Brewer of Open Door Ministeries in the USA.

If you did not grow up in a Jewish home, Yom Kippur may be very unfamiliar to you. Jewish Voice Ministries is dedicated to helping open the eyes of Jews to the evidence that Our Messiah was born in Bethlehem, lived a life of miracles, was crucified for our sins then rose again. In addition to this, it has some great resources for helping people who did not grow up as Jews understand the faith we Gentiles have been grafted into.

One of the excellent resources offered on the Jewish Voices website is this video about Yom Kippur which gives a good walkthrough of the traditions surrounding Yom Kippur.

My Experiences with Yom Kippur

Last year was my first time observing the Yom Kippur fast. Ironically, I spent the day watching Yom Kippur services broadcast live online from all over the world. Why ironically? On Yom Kippur and other Sabbaths people who love the L-RD will refrain from using electricity. This is just one of the new things I learned this year about Yom Kippur - the holiest day of the year - the Day of Atonement.

I also learned that you do not wish people - Happy Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur is a very solemn observation. The usual greeting for Yom Kippur would be - May you have an easy fast.

Yom Kippur is a time for asking Our Creator to help us get closer to him. My inner radio station is playing the song "Change My Heart O G-d" by Eddie Espinoza. Do you know this song?

Yom Kippur Yearly Repentance to Start a Fresh Year

Yom Kippur -the Day of Atonement is a very important Feast of God for all people who love God and especially for those wanting to honour the sacrifice His Son made at Calvary to atone for our sins. Until a few years ago, I knew very little about the importance of this day or any of the Holidays of God. Perhaps, Yom Kippur is relatively new to you too. If so, you might be interested in some of these resources I've discovered in my exploration of the significance of this holiest of Sabbaths. Unfortunately, many people have not had the opportunity to learn about the importance of this day. This post has a video teaching about Yom Kippur from Dr. Sam Nadler a messianic Jew and a few links to events and useful resources for further exploration and study.
